On January 22nd the center column of 1,600 Europeans and 2,500 natives was encamped at Isandhlwana, but neither entrenched nor in lager. The camp was attacked by 10,000 Zulus and almost every man left in camp was killed.
Later that day two impis of the Zulu army, about 4,000 men, attacked the garrison of about 120 men at Rorkes Drift. The Zulus got inside the entrenchments six times but each time were driven back at bayonet point. The next morning the Zulus withdrew. The defenders were awarded 11 Victoria Crosses.
Two movies, "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn", vividly portray these two engagements.
Finally at the Battle of Ulundi, a wall of British infantry and artillery broke the spirit of the Zulu nation.
The range of Imperial figures shown here depict the British and Zulu regiments well known for their part in these historic events.
